New International Standard For Scooters
Scooters' Climbing Ability Rated
The International Organization for Standardization’s ISO 7176-10 is a set of standards governing wheelchairs. These standards cover topics such as dimensions, stability, energy consumption and braking, allowing users and prescribers of wheelchairs and scooters to more readily compare products made and sold in different countries.
Now a new standard will assess the ability of one-person electric scooters and wheelchairs to cope with climbing and descending obstacles such as kerbs, door thresholds and other changes in height and gradient. The “ISO 7176-10:2008, Wheelchairs 10: Determination of obstacle-climbing ability of electrically powered wheelchairs” will provide invaluable information for wheelchair users for whom obstacle climbing is an important consideration.
